The town hall meetings in August uncovered a nasty little secret in Washington: Members of Congress don't actually read their bills!! If you're tired of politicians sticking you with the consequences of bills they haven't read, sign the National Read the Bill Petition.

Sen. Jim Bunning (Ky) is preparing legislation that will require bills to be scored by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and posted online at least 72 hours before they can be considered by the Senate or any Senate committee. This will leave Members of Congress with no excuse for failing to read their bills and it will give the public time to express their views before legislation is passed.

Here is an excerpt from a personal letter from Mother Teresa to Judie Brown of ALL (American Life League) from May 1992 on the topic of world peace and abortion:

I pray that your book will open many hearts to God. May those who read it be moved to let God do great things in their lives and to work and pray that the killing of innocent children by abortion -- which is the greatest threat to world peace -- be stopped completely and forever, for through abortion mothers destroy the image and likeness of God.

God returns to the Capitol Visitors Center

When the $621 million Capitol Visitors Center opened last year, somebody was conspicuously absent at the opening ceremony: God.

Virtually all references to the role that faith in God played in the founding and development of the United States had been scrubbed from displays.

The secular fundamentalists who designed the exhibits even mistakenly said that our national motto is "E Pluribus Unum" ("Out of Many, One") and engraved it on stone, while the actual motto, "In God We Trust," was nowhere to be found in the 580,000 square feet of the CVC.
While there was plenty of room for mentions of Earth Day, AIDS rallies and casinos, there apparently was no room for God.

But thanks to Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va.), the Congressional Prayer Caucus, and The American Family Association the oversight has been corrected and visitors to the center now see "In God We Trust" engraved over the entrance.

Send Congress a Pink Slip

What Congress seems to care most about is getting reelected. Sometimes it seems like they don't even listen to us, the people. They march along in step with their party line regardless of what we, the people, say we want.

Janet Folger Porter, of Faith2Action, came up with the idea of letting Congress know we're following what they're doing and are tired of the out-of-control spending and their insistence of enacting legislation that we don't want.

Check it out and SEND A PINK SLIP to every member of Congress NOW!

The Big 'D' in Dallas: Divorce

From Tony Perkins of Family Research Council"

A judge in the Dallas District Court system seems to have made a sudden career change. In the middle of a case on same-sex "divorce," Judge Tena Callahan abandoned her job of upholding the law and immediately set to work rewriting it. Although Texas doesn't recognize same-sex "marriage," Judge Callahan brushed aside the state's constitution, which was amended to protect marriage in 2005. Thumbing her nose at 75% of Texas voters, she ruled that the ban on same-sex "marriage" violates the concept of equal protection under the law. Her decision paves the way for the couple to legally "divorce."

Healthcare reform and abortion - rhetoric vs. reality

The Senate Finance Committee has defeated pro-life and conscience amendments to a healthcare reform measure.

Senators writing a healthcare overhaul bill on Wednesday rejected a bid to strengthen pro-life provisions already in the legislation, in a vote that could have far-reaching repercussions.

Mary Harned, staff counsel with Americans United for Life (AUL), says pro-life forces were hoping to demonstrate to the White House and to Congress their concern about how tax dollars are spent.

She describes the amendment that was defeated. "Basically what the amendment would have done is that it would have insured that there was no federal money for abortion in the Senate finance bill and that there was no mandate for abortion coverage," she says.

By the same vote, the Committee also voted down an amendment that would have prevented discrimination against medical entities and individuals that refuse services on the basis of ethics or religious beliefs. "Unless there's that kind of protection in this legislation, if it becomes law, then some people might ultimately have to choose between providing healthcare or violating their conscience," argues Harned.

In fact, Dr. David Stevens, who heads the Christian Medical & Dental Associations, warned in a webcast that if doctors are forced to violate their conscience, "there will be no Christians in healthcare."

In reaction to the amendments' defeat, AUL president Dr. Charmaine Yoest claims those who argue that abortion coverage will not be part of healthcare reform are saying one thing but doing another.
